Delighted To Chat Passion & Branding With VoyageATL

Hi Tiffani, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.

I am living proof of the adage, “follow your passion, and the money will follow.” I majored in broadcast journalism at Penn State University, with the full intention of pursuing a career in the field. I was interning at MTV and the American Red Cross when I became fascinated with marketing and public relations. I considered changing my major, but was already a junior and followed my parent’s advice that I finish what I start and earn my degree. Upon graduation, I struggled to find work in broadcast journalism. Reluctantly, I accepted a marketing job with a small professional service firm in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

At first, I was disappointed, having the experience and excitement of the entertainment world. Then—I discovered I was very good at marketing, no matter what industry. Within a year, I went from being a marketing assistant to marketing coordinator. Furthermore, within a few short years, after committing myself to my true passion, I relocated to Jacksonville, Florida to become a Marketing and Communications Manager for a Fortune 500 firm. I designed and implemented a complete rebrand of the company, working directly with the CEO and executive board. When the company decided to close their Jacksonville office, I was faced with a life-changing decision: continue my corporate job with the company in another city or follow my dream of creating my own brand marketing and design firm. Convinced that I’d taken my corporate career as far as I could, I accepted my severance and made the leap.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

In 2017, I took a leap of faith and started my own company, DESIGNTIFF. It is probably one of the greatest challenges I have faced. I had been in the corporate world for a decade and achieved rapid success. I could have easily continued on that same path but was eager to be free of the creative restraints that come with working in the corporate world. I decided the risk would be worth the reward. It proved to be the right decision at the right time. Thanks to my reputation and a colleague’s recommendation, my very first client was a $100 million dollar company. Today, I work with clients across the United States, Australia and China in retail, fashion, entertainment, food and beverage, eCommerce, non-profit, architecture, construction, and more.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?

I’m the founder of DESIGNTIFF, a brand marketing and graphic design firm. Branding is far more than a simple design task. It requires strategic thinking and research to successfully develop concepts. I implement and coordinate efforts to create an impactful brand that resonates with audiences. In the creation of brand elements such as logos, brand identity, business cards, brochures, social media marketing, and websites, I focus on both the big picture in coordination with the small details. I work in close partnership with my clients, mentoring them in the importance of creating a unified visual identity. I believe deeply in the power of visual storytelling in effective branding. Clients may be brilliant at executing their business plan but may not have the experience and insight to effectively communicate a brand that connects with their audience. In short, I offer a comprehensive brand strategy and marketing kit to ensure that my clients can communicate their vision and reach their full potential.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?

As a solo entrepreneur, my success relies on positive relationships with both clients and those on my team—other entrepreneurs, freelancers, and specialists working in businesses complementary to my own. Networking and alliance building, however, isn’t the complete story. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my family and friends—those who have stood by me when I was filled with doubt, frustration, and uncertainty. They have always been my greatest supporters and have pushed me to do my best, never wavering in their belief in my ability to reach my highest potential. My single greatest inspiration, however, is my late brother, Qwynton. Only two years apart, we grew up sharing our dreams and ambitions. As my older sibling, he inspired and believed in me. He encouraged me when I was in doubt. Though he struggled with mental illness and unfortunately transitioned to the afterlife fourteen years ago, I still feel driven every day to succeed and make a positive impact on those around me as a tribute to his legacy.
